Let’s just say you’re sick and tired of chasing after the next traffic blues.
You want a change. And you want it now. This post is for you.
If your blog’s daily traffic is below 100, I can show you how to triple that in as little as 60 days.
Of course you can start seeing spikes of visitors earlier than that, but you need that time frame to fully implement the corporate blogging strategy.
You’re familiar with guest blogging right?
But I’m certain that the word “corporate blogging” is strange to you, or better yet not so clear to you. But you know what, when I started blogging in 2011, I got fed up because most of the A-list blogs no longer send qualified traffic like they used to.
In fact, you’d be so displeased when you see less than 20 visitors from the top sites.
Even if they send you more than that, only a handful of these people will eventually sign up to your list, because, hey, they came from a more professional and trusted blog, you’re just a newbie who doesn’t know what works and what doesn’t.
I’m going to change all of that for you today. But first, let’s get the stumps off your way.
What is corporate blogging?
Corporate + blogging = qualified traffic, trust, higher rankings in Google, referral traffic and potentials to attract high paying clients. In a nut shell, corporate blogging is that type of blogging which relates to a group of people as a whole.
That means you’ll not be the only one promoting a piece of content, building networks and brainstorming ideas to grow the business. The group (company) you write for already had a stipulated budget for content promotion.
So where do you come in as a blogger?
With your guest blogging skills, and writing bravery, you can approach any of the corporate blogs out there, get featured and drive a large portion of their paying customers to your blog without paying a dime.
Virtually every SaaS providers out there run their own corporate blog with thousands of active and dedicated customers.
For instance, Getresponse has a very useful and rich corporate blog with over 300k customers. These are professionals you can redirect to your blog just by getting your post featured on their blog. See screenshot:
What about LeadPages?
They have a data-driven corporate blog and this blog is being read by over 14,000 happy customers. Would you like to have a slice of that quality traffic funnelled to your blog? See screenshot for the exact numbers:
And lastly, you can also get your useful and data-driven posts published at Freshbooks, which has about 5 million customers. Don’t doubt me; I’ve got the stats for you:
Now that you’ve seen the potentials of driving traffic to your blog through corporate blogging (i.e. writing useful blog posts for corporate (owned by a group)), let’s get straight to the 7 steps you need to get started. I guarantee you’ll not regret it.
- Have a customized blog
Up until this time, you may have been using a personal blog with a free theme. It’s high time you change it, because if your guest post must be accepted at any of the corporate blogs out there, you need a custom blog.
For example, you need a blog that looks somewhat like a corporate blog – which means that you’ve to either pay for a blog redesign or use a not-so-common theme.
A powerful strategy for customizing a wordpress theme is by designing a logo and header and tweaking the CSS sheet; choosing a unique color, font and placements.
You could get an amazing logo and header design for $10 ($5 each) at fiverr.com. You just have to develop that relationship with your designers – that way; they’ll pour out their heart and give you a great design.
- Develop a simple USP
USP stands for unique selling proposition. It’s what makes you thick. It’s your brand identifier on the internet and without it; you’re as good as a struggling start up entrepreneur.
Question: But how can you develop a USP that’s simple and attractive to corporate blog editors?
Answer: Use your strongest product benefit.
For instance, if you’re a social media strategist, the core benefit of working with you is to provide a checklist that helps clients and prospects understand how to use twitter, facebook and other social media networks more efficiently.
If you’re a SEO, your USP could flow from understanding market research and using that data to optimize content that drives traffic. Whatever your USP is, make sure it’s focused on solving people’s problem, not yours.
- Study data-driven guides
For you to successful write guest posts that gets published at authority and corporate blogs like Aweber, clickbank, leadpages, freshbooks, icontact and the likes, you have to focus on data-driven ideas/topics.
In other words, these sites are not looking for another “top 10 ways to make money online.” They want something specific, backed up by current data and can be implemented right away.
So where do you get those data driven materials and resources? I just found a great pool and it’s free at Aweber center.
- Build a corporate landing page
You don’t want to get a ‘NO’ from the editor just because your landing page is full of hype and unrealistic claims.
Instead of doing that, you should create a corporate landing page – such that it’d highlight the problems faced by the target audience, and the step by step method you’ve mapped out to address and fix them.
Of course, a landing page without an opt-in form is incomplete. So inasmuch as you provide useful information on your lead capture page, always persuade your readers to join and get on the insider list for the best kept secrets.
A corporate landing page should have your name, your office address, headline, lead bait, signature and an opt-in box. See example here.
- Read up their popular posts
This is simple to do. If you want to write a guest post that will suit a particular audience in the voice they’re used to, you have to read up a few popular posts.
As you read such posts, take note of the format, the style and how data are linked and credited to the appropriate sources.
I’m sure that after you’ve read 2 – 3 popular posts at your chosen corporate blog, you’ll be on your way to writing even a better one, especially when you employ the skyscraper technique.
- Pitch corporate blogs you use
Time is short and valuable. You already have a handful corporate blogs to pitch your best guest posts to. In case you don’t know, any of those service providers you currently use is a good fit.
Obviously, every serious blogger pays for autoresponder email service, web hosting, third-party merchant, payment gateway providers (PayPal, 2checkout, e-junkie, Jvzoo, DealGuardian etc.).
Since you’re already paying for and using their software/service, when you pitch a topic to them, let the editor know that you’re a happy customer and would like to contribute a useful and evergreen post to them.
This was how I got my guest post featured at Printrunner as well as Yahoo! SmallBusiness.
Side note: make sure you pitch corporate blogs a topic they’re familiar with, and make it relevant and valuable to their primary product. This is so vital to your success.
- Build a non-anchor text link
Google has changed the rules for link building. In 2014 and beyond, exact match anchor texts no longer matters. But you’ve to use your brand domain names + your target keyword to build links.
For instance, if you’re a business coach in New York, don’t solely build anchor links to your landing page with that exact key phrase. But get creative and stay off Google’s red flag.
If I were to build a relevant and Google-friendly anchor link to my oDesk profile page, I’d use: “my oDesk.com profile page.”
Bear in mind that corporate blogging isn’t a hit and run approach. You’ve to be consistent and give it your utmost attention for at least 6 months.
By that time, you’d have improved your rankings in Google, enhanced your credibility and make more profit.
